How much will the RX 7800 XT cost?

The RX 7800 XT has an MSRP starting at $499, putting it on a competitive footing from that standpoint. The RTX 4070 had an MSRP of $599 at launch, which means that if actual products can get close to the stated MSRP price, AMD (and partners) will have done an excellent job in claiming a spot in a competitive market. It also means it will be $50 above the MSRP of the RX 7700 XT.

RX 7800 XT specs

The RX 7800 XT will be going up against the RTX 4070 at launch, so we’ve laid out the two side by side here so you can compare the key specs. At the time of writing, we don’t have the MSRP of the 7800, but it will likely be the deciding factor when it comes to choosing between Nvidia’s current snatcher of market share versus the new AMD arrival.

There’s a bit of back and forth on stats here, as you can see the base clock of the 7800 Xt is above that of 4070, even though Nvidia’s card can boost just ahead of the AMD offering. The 7800 XT takes the total VRAM to 16GB, besting the 4070, and AMD points out this should help in memory-intensive games.

With its specs, the RX 7800 XT should deliver good VR, impressive 1440p, and possibly decent 4K gaming too. The 4070 wins on memory speed, while AMD opts for newer DisplayPort compatibility. For power, it seems AMD will be the hungrier. The picture on performance, beyond AMD claiming victories in gaming benchmarks in its own tests, should be considered based on available benchmarks nearer the release, alongside an agreeable release price.
