Given the constant innovations in the ever-competitive tech market, lightning-fast processing speeds are nothing new. However, Intel’s upcoming Core i9-14900KS CPU may soon surpass any clock speed ever seen, with the MSI BIOS enabling users to reach clock speeds of up to a whopping 6.4GHz.
That’s according to Twitter/X user chi11eddog (via Wccftech), who revealed that “new 6.4GHz overclocking profiles [had been] added to MSI’s P-Core Beyond 6Hz+ for the new CPU.” In the same post, they added a screenshot of the frighteningly rapid clock speed in question, providing even more evidence to their as-yet unconfirmed claims. Of course, since Intel has yet to confirm the 14900KS’s max clock speed and its release date, you’ll need to have your salt shakers handy, as always.
6.4GHz clock speeds may become common with the 14900KS
If this type of clock speed does become the norm for the Core i9-14900KS, it will more than likely demand a lot of resources to maintain. You would need to equip your rig with the most ideal cooling systems since this CPU would undoubtedly reach high temperatures at these speeds. You would also have to pair it with a PSU that could handle its power draw since overclocking, especially at this level, eats up a ton of wattage.
Unfortunately, the upcoming CPU’s price tag makes it impractical for most casual PC users – recent rumors have the 14900KS’s price tag pegged at around an eye-watering $749. But if you’re dead set on equipping your rig with it, you’ll need to learn where to buy the Intel Core i9-14900KS beforehand so you can grab one at launch.
