Steam account name vs Steam profile name
When it comes to changing a Steam account name there is something you should know. As you may have noticed, your Steam account name is a numerical identifier that is automatically created when you make your account. Unfortunately, these IDs are permanent and cannot be changed.
While the exact reason for this is unclear, Steam’s support page confirms that it cannot be done. However, all is not lost. There is still a way to update the profile name that your fellow Steam gamers see. So even though your account username is permanent, you can still update your identity on the platform.
Change your profile name on the Steam website

View your profile
To change your Steam profile name, you will need to log on to your Steam account. From here, click on your profile name in the top right to open the drop-down menu. A list of options should now appear. Select “View my profile”.

A new page will open containing all your profile information. We want to change your profile name so click on “Edit Profile” which appears on the right side of your screen.

Under the “General” section, click on your current name and begin to type over it. Here you can change it to anything you like.

Once you are happy with your new profile name, scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Save Changes”.
Change your profile name on the Steam application
Changing your name on the Steam application is extremely easy. Start by logging in to your account.

Firstly, click on your username on the top bar and pick “Profile” from the drop-down options.

You should now see a page filled with all your account information. Next, click on “Edit Profile” so we can start making changes to your profile name.

Last but not least, here is the method to change your profile name on Steam mobile. Unsurprisingly, this method is just as easy as the other two. Start by signing in to your Steam account on the mobile app to kick things off.

Once you are all logged in, the Steam mobile app will load on your friends list. In the top left of your screen, tap on the three horizontal lines to open the navigation menu. From here, tap either your profile picture or profile name.

You will now be in the profile section of the app. Next, tap on “Edit Profile” to bring up your profile settings. Here, you can change your profile name by typing in the “Profile Name” box.
