Google has added three new features to the Chrome browser this week – all powered by AI. The new and experimental AI Google Chrome features include organization, personalization, and content creation tools. What are these new AI features, and how do you use them?
What are the new generative AI Google Chrome features?
New Chrome Generative AI features are coming to US browsers this week. The three new AI-backed features will be available for both Mac and Windows PCs, and should make browsing easier and more personalized than ever before.
- Tab Organizer: With Tab Organizer, Chrome will automatically suggest and create tab groups based on your open tabs.
- Create themes with AI: With Chrome AI Themes, you can now “quickly generate custom themes based on a subject, mood, visual style and color that you choose.”
- Help Me Write: The new AI writing assistant, coming this Feb, will “help you write with more confidence on the web.”
Vice President of Chrome, Parisa Tabriz, explains the above tools in her Google Blog post on January 23rd, 2024. Tabriz recommends that you’ll find Tab Organizer “particularly helpful if you’re working on several tasks in Chrome at the same time, like planning a trip, researching a topic and shopping.”
In addition, the new Chrome AI writing assistant will come in handy when leaving “a well-written review for a restaurant, craft[ing] a friendly RSVP for a party or mak[ing] a formal inquiry about an apartment rental.”

FAQ – What is Compose AI: AI-powered Writing Tool?
Compose AI, a top result when searching for “AI Chrome”, is not associated with Google. This isn’t one of the three new features, although it does closely resemble the new AI writing assistant in Chrome. Instead, it’s a Chrome extension available on th Google Chrome Web Store.
It promises to cut your “writing time by 40% with AI-powered autocompletion & text generation”. But does it deliver? With over 400,000 users and a 4.1 star rating, it seems like a reasonably well-polished and free alternative to ChatGPT Plus. But then again, so is the free version of ChatGPT.
